I believe deeply in the saying “It’s never too late.” 

Born in 1948, I qualify as a Baby Boomer—one of the way-too-many children born in the post-WWII Baby Boom. I’ve taken to calling myself a Late Boomer because I’ve been late to so many of life’s most important parties.

 Always a good student, I graduated from my New Jersey high school right on time. But three colleges and 17 years later, I finally earned a bachelor’s degree and a teaching credential at the age of 35. I worked as an elementary-school teacher for a while, but wasn’t patient enough to make a career of it. I married my sweetheart, Michael, when I was 37 and he 36. We had our first child two years later. I was 44 when our second child came along. Late, but worth the wait!

 Finally, in my mid-forties, I started to write. I had no idea how to write, but I knew I’d finally found the thing I loved. Michael, a great writer and editor, taught me as I went along. I freelanced for more than 20 years. Eventually, I got a couple of pieces accepted by Highlights magazine (not easy—I got rejected a lot). After those successes, I decided to write a book. 

 The Abode took me several years starting, stopping, and starting again. I finally finished it and, with help from a professional designer, self-published my first book. I was 69 years old. Now, at 76, I’ve published a sequel to The Abode called The Ice Dragon’s Daughter, and am writing the third book in the trilogy. Working title Behold the Dragons.
